Food 4/5 We got the meat ring, which consists of beef and lamb and is definitely enough protein for two people to share. However, the meat quality is very average if you choose the meat ring. Next time, I would opt for a more expensive cut. We also got the Chinese donut with shrimp paste and I really enjoyed it! Sauce bar is $3.5/person, which I thought was too expensive considering how they don't have many fruits and appetizers. Service 4/5 Average service here, nothing to complain about. Ambiance 4.5/5 I like how spacious the restaurant is. It is setup in a way that can accommodate large parties.

Liuyishou has the best hot pot broth options in my opinion. Their chicken soup with fish maw is top tier and brewed to perfection. The meat slices tend to be on the thinner side when served in a ring platter so their a la carte beef would be better quality. I also love their green bean noodle that is not always offered in other hot pot restaurants. They also have a self serve sauce bar with some appetizers and fruits like other hot pot restaurants. I've tried this restaurant a number of times now and it just doesn't disappoint.

Always love coming to this place. They only use good quality meat. Love the soup base. A little noisy but I think that's fine. After all, it's a Chinese restaurant.

Absolutely loved this place--everything was delicious! We ordered the two-flavor soup base with House Special Soup (medium spicy) and Wild Mixed Mushroom Soup with herbs. Our order included the Beef and Lamb Platter Ring, Prime Beef Slices, House Special Beef Tripe, Shrimp Paste with Fish Roe, Vegetable Platter, Lettuce, and Handmade Noodles. We also paid for the sauce bar, which included sauces, fruit, and snacks. I think paying for the sauce bar is always worth it since I love having appetizers and dipping sauces for hot pot. The soups were flavorful, and all the ingredients we ordered were solid. The beef tripe was great--dipping it in the soup about 8 times gave the best flavor! The shrimp paste was delicious, though breaking it into smaller pieces was a bit of work. The service was great, the bathroom was clean (with mouthwash!), and there are parking garages nearby in downtown San Mateo. I really enjoyed this hot pot spot!

Liuyishou offers premium soup bases, meats and ingredients. What originally attracted me to this place was the presentation of their beef and lamb combo. (refer pic) Came on a Sunday afternoon with no wait and got seated immediately. Service was quick and attentive. Currently they have a weekly hotpot combo special that is just under $20 - pick your soup base, load up with beef or lamb, and get 9 other delicious ingredients to craft your perfect hotpot. ⁣ Tip: They charge $7 for access to the sauce bar (which I'm personally not a fan of), but it's something to keep in mind. Overall, I would definitely come back. Great food, great value, and great service! Cheers!

My friend and I ordered two soup bases, the classic spicy soup base in medium spicy and pork bone broth. The spicy broth was on the spicier side of spicy broths but not unbearable. Had a decent amount of flavor and not as oily or salty compared to places such as Happy Lamb which I appreciated. The pork bone broth on the other hand was very bland and I do not recommend it. In terms of dishes, we ordered quite a bit for two people. And I will say, the portion sizes here are pretty good for a la carte, so I recommend ordering less to start and you can always add more later. The lamb and beef ring was too aesthetic not to get and it honestly was very gimmicky and only cute for photos. It was actually not very convenient as it took up a lot of space and I was always scared to dripping soup on the uncooked meat. But meat quality-wise it's decent and pretty tender. We also ordered things like enoki mushroom, lettuce, tofu, tofu skin, and a couple other things. The Napa cabbage was massive. They should've cut it up more to make it easier to cook and eat. Same with the peppercorn beef tripe. This is kinda nitpicking but I think for the price, they should be better about the details. In terms of drinks, I ordered a green grape tea which was very refreshing and my friend ordered a Chinese soft drink but they gave her another similar brand instead which was quite odd. They also gave us free tea which didn't have too much flavor but still nice. The main con is they charge $3.50 per person for the sauce bar without asking us. I never get sauce so I felt like I was being forced to pay for a service I wasn't going to use. Wish they would only charge us if we used it like at Happy Lamb or just have it for free like a lot of other places. $3.50 for sauce and some cut up fruit is not worth it to me. My friend who only used it since she was already being charged for it and because her soup base was so bland came back disappointed because the one sauce she was looking for wasn't even available. It was a decent hot pot experience but I would not go out of my way to come here again. There's nothing unique about the place and it is a heftier price tag compared to other hot pot restaurants.
